Writers often resort to making characters very stupid and/or suddenly acting uncharacteristically stupid just to drive them to tighten up or plan out a sequence instead of rebuilding or giving up on the idea. "Bagman" it’s one of those scenarios that should have been thrown out early on, but was instead stupidly forced.
It wouldn’t be a movie without him
It is the backbone of the entire film if it consists of irrational stupidity. I won’t list the number of times the parents behaved irrationally and stupidly, but let’s say; if you’re a sane person with a child at risk of abduction, you’d want to keep them at arm’s length 24 hours a day.
But no, not these parents
They make sure to always put their child in harm’s way, give it to other people, and pretty much always make sure to keep it out of reach and out of sight – just to make this movie possible.
