Everything seems idyllic until her former commander Reid (Sarah Lancashire) returns to her life and informs her that her secret lover Jason (Andrew Codgee) was killed along with two other people, so she has revived her old life. like a secret spy, hungry for revenge. Together with Sam (Ben Whishaw), an assassin and her former trainer, Reid untangles a complex web of political espionage and murder. The spy thriller has lost popularity over the years, but it still has the potential to work in new and different formats. Black Pigeons came out of nowhere with a massive advertising campaign and became the latest major Netflix product to top the charts in an attempt to revive the genre in our time. The result is a really mixed picture, which holds your attention throughout the pleasantly concise eight episodes, but cannot hide the unevenness of the script. All in all, it’s a pretty standard spy story with some pretty standard stories. cliché “cloak and dagger”, which anyone familiar with old spy tricks will recognize and even gladly accept. The bigger problem is the uneven tone. The script oscillates unevenly between ironic comedy action and a dark, tough spy thriller, forcing you to think too much to really get into it. But this is compensated by stylish and energetic walls with the participation of Whishaw. and Knightley make an appealing pair of mixed-race professionals, ably supported by Lancashire as the icy, detached M-type commander. A spy thriller still has limitless possibilities, and Black Pigeons, despite its flaws, is a strong addition to the main film, with an interesting mystery at its core, with strong acting and action. ***
